SB220- The Opportunity Scholarship bill has been introduced!
The Opportunity Scholarship Program is a tax credit scholarship that allows students who qualify (300% of the poverty line or below) to access the classroom that works for them if their traditional public school is failing them. Currently, this program only serves 1,600 students. This bill would expand the Opportunity Scholarship program, giving access to approximately 6,000 students across the state of Nevada. This bill also increases eligibility to 400% of the federal poverty line, as well as opening eligibility up to children with disabilities and children of first responders.
Nevada is at the bottom for educational outcomes. Currently, in Clark County only one quarter of 3rd-8th graders are proficient in math. Of that number, only 1 in 10 black students and 1 in 5 hispanic students are proficient.
Power2Parent has worked alongside parents and lawmakers for years to support this program and bring more choice to Nevada children. Thanks to Governor Lombardo and his support for the Opportunity Scholarship, we are closer than we have ever been to giving many more children access to the quality education they deserve.
But, we need your help! Tell lawmakers to support school choice! Submit your opinion below and forward this email to anyone who wants more school options for Nevada kids. |
