Say NO- to Removing Parental Consent for Sex Ed Urgent Action Needed! Hearing Tuesday at 1:30pm Reminder and Corrected Emails This is a reminder for the upcoming hearing today at 1:30. We got a few emails wrong in yesterday's call to action. We made those corrections and we encourage everyone to email the education committee your testimony in defense of parental rights. In the subject line of the email indicate your opposition to AB205. Please be respectful and use the key points listed below to support your position. We need your immediate attention regarding Assembly Bill 205 (AB205), which proposes changing Nevada's sex education policy from an opt-in system to an opt-out system. This shift would remove the requirement for direct parental consent, undermining your right to actively approve your child's participation in sex education. Key Points: Current Success of Opt-In: Approximately 97% of students return permission slips, with 95% of parents consenting to their child's participation. ​ Positive Trends: The Nevada Youth Risk Behavior Survey indicates a significant decrease in the number of high school students who have ever had intercourse, with no significant changes in other categories. ​Teen pregnancy rates are also going down Historical Precedent: Since 2015, we have successfully opposed similar changes. In 2017, Governor Sandoval vetoed a comparable bill, citing parental rights concerns.​ Bottom Line: Our current opt-in to sex education system is working. The majority of parents sign and return permission forms. Most parents choose to opt-in to the sex ed portion of Health. Parents appreciate transparency; knowing when the material will be presented and who will be teaching it. Maintaining opt-in keeps parents informed and teachers accountable. Deborah Earl, COO selected to represent Power2Parent for the Lt. Governor’s Task Force to Protect Women’s Sports Dear Powerful Parents, We are excited to announce that Deborah Earl, COO and co-founder of Power2Parent, has been appointed to the Lieutenant Governor's Task Force to Protect Women’s Sports. This task force will address the growing concern of biological males competing against girls in sports. The goal is to safeguard opportunities for female athletes. At Power2Parent, we have always championed parents’ voices in advocating for their children. The participation of biological boys in girls' sports undermines the fairness and integrity Title IX was designed to protect—ensuring equal opportunities for girls in athletics. Families across the country have shared their struggles with this issue, and it’s clear we must act to uphold the rights of female athletes. As a task force member, Deborah will work alongside key leaders to restore fairness in sports and ensure all young women have a level playing field.
