Reminder: Recap on Sex Education Advisory Committee (SEAC)

Proposed 5th Grade Sex Education. CCSD is last in the nation in academic outcomes.

Dear Powerful Parents and Community Members,

The Sex Education Advisory Committee (SEAC) met on Thursday, October 20th. They discussed and voted on the the addition of very controversial curriculum. Most everything passed.

The SEAC recommendations will go to the trustees for a final vote at a future date. The recommended curriculum is detailed below.

If trustees approve, 5th grade students (9 and 10 year-old boys and girls), will be taught the location of the clitoris with the explanation that it is "very sensitive." We checked with three local newspaper reporters and asked if these graphics could be printed in their pape. They all said no, or they "were not sure." If these graphics are inappropriate for an adult publication, they are inappropriate for children.

Historically, 5th grade health has focused on the maturation process, specifically about puberty for boys and girls. The recommended lessons are significantly more expansive. Here is the SEAC- recommended material that was approved:

Agenda item 2.04: Grade 5 (9-10 years old)

Understanding our Bodies identifies the clitoris, vulva, circumcised and uncircumcised penises.

Agenda item 2.05: Grade 5

Body Parts worksheet: Describes in detail the male and female genitalia complete with another open-leg view graphic of a female.

Agenda item 2.07: 9th grade

This lesson is from Planned Parenthood's online sex-ed course called Advocates for Youth. Their version of sex-ed is gradually being implemented into CCSD's curriculum. Advocates for Youth claims to "fully meet the National Sexuality Education Standards." There are no "national standards" on sex education. Individual states decide what to teach.

Advocates for Youth curriculum (see full curriculum here) teaches radical gender ideology telling teachers to instruct children on using gender non-specific language, reducing girls and boys to "persons with a vulva" and "persons with a penis." These lessons encourage early sexual debut, downplay the seriousness of STD's and recommends Planned Parenthood for "confidential" sexual health services to 13 and 14 year old students.

In this lesson on STD prevention a list of pregnancy and sexual health care providers in Las Vegas is advertised for "confidential" services including abortion in southern Nevada.

In Nevada, there is no parental notification or consent for abortion services and there is not a minimum age to receive confidential treatment including abortion. Clinics listed on this handout have a vested financial interest in our children and never mention parents in their instruction. (see graphic below)

The Board of Trustees has voted to make removing opt-in from our laws a priority. If opt-in is changed to opt-out at the legislature next year, parents will not have to know when sexual material is being presented to their children at school. With the implementation of increasingly radical sex education, parents should know when sexual material will be presented. Parents deserve to be part of these consequential conversations and have a meaningful partnership in their child's education.

Concerned parents, grandparents and community members should write to their trustee and ask them to reject these lessons and get core academics right.

CCSD is last in the nation academically. Tell your trustee to focus on educating our children, not sexualizing and indoctrinating them.

Reminder: Sex Education Advisory Committee to Vote on Controversial Curriculum

Proposed 5th Grade Sex Education

Dear Powerful Parents,

The Sex Education Advisory Committee (SEAC) will be meeting on Thursday, October 20th to review and vote on the the addition of curriculum. Please review the additional material that is up for a vote on Thursday.

Historically, 5th grade health has focused on the maturation process, specifically about puberty for boys and girls. These lessons are significantly more expansive. Here is the proposed material.

Language matters. Teachers are encouraged to instruct children on using gender non-specific language, reducing girls and boys to "persons with a vulva" and "persons with a penis."

Agenda item 2.04: Grade 5 (9-10 years old)

Understanding our Bodies identifies the clitoris and vulva and circumcised and uncircumcised penises. (see above graphics for 5th grade)

Agenda item 2.05: Grade 5

Body Parts worksheet

Agenda item 2.07: 9th grade

This lesson on STD prevention advertises a list of pregnancy and sexual health care providers in Las Vegas for "confidential" services including abortion.

The SEAC committee has tremendous influence on how our kids are taught about subject matter that will affect their choices and future mental and physical health. If they approve this curriculum, the trustees will approve it unless there is significant pushback from parents.

Please join us this Thursday at the Greer Education building located at 2832 E. Flamingo Rd, Las Vegas at 5:00 pm.

If you would like to testify, you may sign up when you arrive and will be given 3 minutes.
