Recap on CCSD's Revised Grading Policy & Invitation to K-12 Education Town Hall Series

Recap on CCSD's Grading Policy

Join Us for a K-12 Education Town Hall Series!

Dear Powerful Parents,

On Thursday evening, September 22nd the Board of Trustees were briefed on grading policy revisions that have been implemented over the last several years to prioritize the following:

  • Implement an equal and balanced grading scale
  • Remove behavior as part of the grading process
  • Implement a consistent reassessment policy in order to ensure mastery of state standards and curriculum
  • Implement consistent weighting and categories for classwork and final projects and exams

While some of the changes are positive, there are concerns that making tests and quizzes 90% and homework 10% of the grade (beginning 2023) will mostly benefit students who test well, and make re-assessment and re-learning concepts more difficult for teachers.

Former CCSD teacher and parent MaryAnn Powley expressed concern that the policy will not benefit students struggling in school, students with test anxiety or teachers who are being asked to find new tests to give the students to assess their mastery of a topic.

No action was taken on this item at the meeting. Power2Parent will bring you more information on this topic.

Join us on September 28th for a K-12 Education Town Hall Series! We all know education needs a major boost in Nevada.
