Here is a rundown on what happened with the agenda items we were watching:
Agenda item 5.02 Resolution 2021 Secure Storage Notification
This agenda action item passed 6-1 in favor of literature detailing the importance of safe gun storage to be included in student registration packets at the beginning of each school year. Trustee Williams asked that the board to consider partnering with local gun groups that provide training on firearm safety.
5.04 Anti-Racism Policy Development Work
Dr. Sam Scavella updated the Trustees on the progress of the policy. The next steps Dr. Scavella detailed will include the following:
- 25 individuals will be chosen to serve on the formal external taskforce.
- Updates will be given next month on the internal and external Anti-racism, Equity and Inclusion Taskforce.
- Updates to the Trustees will continue until the policy is finished and ready for approval.
Dr. Jesus Jara and President Linda Cavazos emphasized that there is no curriculum tied to this policy. As concerned parents and community members, we will be closely watching the development of this policy so that we can inform parents if Critical Race Theory (CRT) curriculum is considered at any time.
