The Nevada Legislative Session of 2021 has finally ended and we are excited to celebrate with Nevada families. Here is the good news of the session:
- AB495 added an additional tax on the mining industry and expanded the Opportunity Scholarship program to 22.8 million. Ultimately we would like to see a fully funded opportunity scholarship program, but these funds are a win for school choice. We were grateful to fight for school choice along with the Nevada School Choice Coalition and are grateful for their efforts.
- AB19 threatened the autonomy of families who homeschool to fully direct their child's education. We lobbied legislators and successfully secured an amendment to protect homeschool.
We would like to thank Senators Gansert, Buck, Pickard, Hammond and Kieckhefer, and Assembly members Tolles, Roberts, and Hafen for their commitment to families and school choice in Nevada.
Most of all, we are grateful to the amazing parents and community members in our state who engaged in the process by testifying, calling, and emailing legislators. Thank you for your support and engagement on these incredibly important issues.
