NVDOE moving forward with meeting even after public outcry

Dear Powerful Parents,

In spite of outcry from parents in Nevada, the Nevada Department of Education is moving forward with a public input meeting to discuss and take possible action on proposed language for Senate Bill 225.

The timing of the meeting, Friday March 30th is during Spring Break for 409,000 students (out of 492,000 in the entire state) in Clark County and Washoe County.  March 30th is also Good Friday, a religious holiday observed by many families in Nevada. The NVDOE claims that they didn't know about Spring Break or Good Friday when they scheduled a meeting centered on a proposal that will affect every child who attends public school in Nevada.  The many calls, complaints and emails submitted by frustrated parents have been ignored and the meeting will go forward as scheduled.

Please join us for our press conference at 10:00 a.m. on March 30th at the Las Vegas Branch of the Department of Education office located at 9890 S. Maryland Pkwy, 2nd Floor, Las Vegas NV 89183.  Children are welcome!

We ask that you bring a written statement about how this language will affect families in Nevada to submit State Superintendent Steve Canavero. Testimonies could highlight their disregard for families in scheduling and policy language that could mandate the following:

  • Allow unrestricted access to students who identify with the opposite biological gender, infringing on  reasonable right to privacy in intimate spaces at school.

  • Require students to room with another student of the opposite biological sex on overnight field trips, without parental notification.

  • Allow schools to teach gender theory in the classroom without  parental permission.

Understanding that many of our families are out of town, we ask that you submit your testimony to the NVDOE by email to ndeinfo@doe.nv.gov.

We will keep you updated on any developments.

Sincerely,

Power2Parent
