View In Browser Dear Powerful Parents,   We wanted to send out a quick reminder about tonight's meeting with the Board of Trustees. The meeting will be held in the Clark County Commission Chambers in the Government Center located at 500 S. Grand-Central Parkway, Las Vegas, Nevada 89155 at 6:00 p.m. Trustees will be discussing and likely voting on "whether to direct the Superintendent and staff to draft policy and regulation related to gender diverse students." This vote is enormously consequential when it comes to privacy in bathrooms and locker rooms on campus and affects every student in this district. The importance of your attendance tonight in defense of families, children, and your parental rights cannot be understated. It has come to our attention that Planned Parenthood and other activists will be holding a rally beginning at 5:00 p.m. outside the Government Center. This movement is exposing itself for what it is; activist organizations circumventing parents in order to further their radical agenda in our schools. Some Trustees agree with Planned Parenthood and Gender Justice. They will  further their agenda by voting to move forward on writing a policy that will allow biological boys to access girls' locker rooms and bathrooms. Some Trustees feel perfectly fine about allowing a biological boy to share a hotel room with your daughter on an overnight field trip without notification. We invite you to come and see if your Trustee will vote to direct the writing of policy that will disregard valid privacy concerns and place the needs and interests of one demographic over another.   Several Trustees will be running for re-election this November. We will be watching how they vote on this matter, as their vote tonight will influence our vote in November. You may sign up to speak until noon today by calling the Office of the Board of Trustees at (702) 799-1072. You may also sign up to speak at the beginning of the meeting. You will have one minute to speak.   We want to deliver a clear message on Thursday evening: CCSD should not waste any more precious time and resources developing policy until Nevada Department of Education language is finalized.   Our school district does not need an expanded policy. Current Nevada law does not require CCSD to create a gender-diverse policy. Public policy that addresses only gender diverse interests is bad policy because it dismisses privacy concerns for others. Principals need uniform guidance that will allow them to address the needs of gender diverse students while protecting privacy in restrooms and locker rooms, and respecting parental rights. This process has been divisive creating hostility and distrust in our community. We urge the Trustees to vote NO. View In Browser Dear Powerful Parents,   Last week members of the gender diverse working group received an email from CCSD informing them that their work was complete. The email went on to state that at the next Board of Trustees meeting the "recommendations would not be included in the backup materials". The gender diverse recommendations created by the working group would not be on the agenda, but the Trustees would be discussing "whether to direct the Superintendent and staff to draft policy and regulation related to gender diverse students." This email signaled to some in the working group that the district heard parents and community members at the 5 public input meetings in December who said the recommendations were too radical, favoring one demographic rather than protecting the rights of all students.     On Friday, March 16th members of our Power2Parent Board and several members of the working group met with Superintendent Skorkowsky and President Deanna Wright. They assured us that we were mistaken. The district had not backed away from the radical recommendations but would not be including them on the agenda at the meeting on March 22nd. Power2Parent strongly believes these recommendations should be part of the agenda because we were made aware that they could be used in writing future policy.   Moving forward, several trustees will be running for re-election this November. It is imperative that we let them know their constituents are watching how they will vote on this matter, particularly those who wish to continue serving as Trustees.     On Thursday, March 22nd, bring neighbors, friends, and family members to the Clark County Government Center Commission Chambers located at 500 S. Grand-Central Parkway, Las Vegas, Nevada 89155 at 6:00 p.m. Please arrive as early as possible since there will be a large crowd. View In Browser Dear Powerful Parents,  I want to congratulate you for your persistence and tenacity in defense of all children in our district.  To every person who showed up to public input meetings, stood in the freezing cold at the Trustee Meeting, wrote emails, and made phone calls, thank you for exerting your influence.  Together we made a difference.   Today we learned that the CCSD Board of Trustees discarded the radical policy recommendations created by the gender diverse working group. With this victory, we hope to build on our momentum, and we need your help to further our campaign to protect students at school.  We have a great opportunity to generate guidance that protects everyone, honors privacy rights, and gives students choices.  On Thursday, March 22, 2018 at 6:00 p.m. the Board of Trustees will hold a meeting to "discuss and take possible action to direct the superintendent to draft a new policy and regulation for gender diverse students."  This meeting will be held at the Clark County Commission Chambers Government Center located at 500 S. Grand Central Parkway, Las Vegas, NV 89155.  There is no other item on the agenda. Every person who wishes to speak will have the opportunity to be heard and influence the process. Potential speakers can sign up by calling the Board of School Trustees office at 702- 799-0257 from 3 pm on Friday, March 16 through noon on Thursday, March 22 or by signing up to speak at the beginning of the meeting. This meeting is important for families to attend so that we can emphasize the need for fairness and equity in our policies.  In order to move forward in this process  Superintendent Skorkowsky must take into consideration the following: The Nevada Department of Education has not released the language that amends the current anti-bullying laws, we must wait for guidance once the language is adopted.  Instruct administrators and CCSD employees to enforce current anti-bullying laws.  Any guidelines developed in the future must provide equal access to all students while also ensuring the privacy of each student.   Now that the gender diverse recommendations are discarded, Power2Parent is developing, and will communicate a framework for guidelines that we hope will be used as a template moving forward. Our goal is to clearly define how we can effectively meet the needs of our diverse student population in their educational journey, while giving principals needed guidance and protecting all children's privacy.  More information on this framework will be available in the next few days.  On behalf of the Power2Parent team, we applaud your ongoing dedication to protect your parental rights and advocate for  children. It is an honor to serve with you.  Respectfully,  Erin Phillips Donate Share Tweet Forward Copyright © 2018 Power2Parent, All rights reserved.
