Teens Flex Their Mental Muscle at Financial Fitness Workshop

The room full of teens had 60 seconds to develop a sales pitch for items sitting right in front of them such as a box of tissues or an office chair. At the end of the minute, a select few would pitch their product to the Chief Executive Officer of Zeebuz, Shark Tank style.

The exercise was part of Power2Parent’s ‘Financial Fitness for Parents and Teens’ workshop held Feb. 6 at the Power2Parent Parent Resource Center. The event, sponsored by apps Zeebuz and Go Boldly, was designed to improve the financial literacy of the participants by having them view their financial decisions as business owners.

“How we promote ourselves matters,” said Chen Levanon, CEO of Zeebuz. “Make sure you are thinking about the one who wants to hire you or buy from you.”

AI For Edu:

Go Boldly!

Go Boldly takes users on a space odyssey, melding AI elements with educational videos to provide a fun and tactile way to improve financial literacy.

The app, which launched this month, is geared not only toward young adults but to anyone who wants to make informed financial decisions.

The mission of Go Boldly is to empower people with the knowledge and resources to make informed financial decisions and achieve long-term prosperity – regardless of their background or circumstances.

Chief Executive Officer Joe Mahavuthivanij describes the app as ‘Duolingo meets Oregon Trail,’ in the sense that the curated selection of financial topics are presented as journeys that users embark on. Along the way, the users watch educational videos shoring up knowledge on the particular topic selected.

At the end of the video modules, users are quizzed and can earn badges that allow them to level up and embark on the next learning ‘mission.’

At present, Go Boldly offers eight journeys –

  • Buying Your First Home
  • Investing My Money
  • Smart Spending Decisions
  • Creating A Budget
  • Building My Credit
  • Raising Seed Funding
  • Introduction to Cryptocurrency
  • Understanding My Taxes

Mahavuthivanij, who has been an entrepreneur within the tech and start up field for 20 years, said that he needed a change of pace with regards to his work and wanted a means of contributing to the educational landscape. This is the heart behind the Las Vegas-based app.

“After Mythic Markets was acquired, I found myself unmotivated because I was now building software to make rich people richer,” he said. “What was getting me out of bed was the opportunity to help friends and family get control of their personal finances, which led to the idea that I could scale this impact beyond my direct network.”

I embarked on the ‘Introduction to Cryptocurrency’ journey. I found the videos engaging, clear and to the point. They are not too long, and they are easy to understand. I definitely returned from my mission feeling smarter on the topic and with a great bird’s eye view of the subject.

Go Boldly is free and is available to download via the App Store and Google Play here.

P2P Partners With The Fatherhood Project To Provide Parents in Recovery Training

Power2Parent has partnered with esteemed non-profit The Fatherhood Project to facilitate its Parents in Recovery program here in Las Vegas.

The Fatherhood Project, a non-profit program operating out of the Department of Psychiatry at Massachusetts General Hospital, recognizes the critical need for fathers to be present and emotionally engaged with their children.

Through evidence-based training developed by Harvard Medical professors and trained educators, The Fatherhood Project offers curriculum to assist parents seeking to better themselves with regards to holistically caring for their children while caring for themselves.

Executive Director Dr. Raymond Levy, Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School, and Director of Programs John Badalament provided in-person training to Power2Parent staff and key community members.

The Parents in Recovery curriculum is specifically tailored to mothers and fathers recovering from substance abuse. It consists of psycho-educational counseling that supports recovery, allowing for parents to:

  • Establish or repair their relationships with their children
  • Parent with increased skills, confidence and competence
  • Understand aspects of child development and safety
  • Take away practical ideas and activities that they can put to use right away

With this goal in mind, Power2Parent is calling all those with a counseling background, educators, medical professionals or those with experience in the area of recovery to consider being trained as facilitators of the Parents in Recovery Program. If you are interested in becoming a trained facilitator and believe you have the skills necessary to do so, please email info@power2parent.org.

The first facilitator training sessions will take place March 8, 15, 22, and 29. Times of the sessions are to be determined.
