The 82nd session of the legislature has ended and summer is in full swing. It is definitely time to enjoy some sun and lemonade with loved ones and stay cool in spite of the Nevada summer sizzle. Here is a rundown on the outcome of the session.
One of our priorities was to improve education by expanding school choice for children. School choice increases opportunities because education is not a one-size-fits-all endeavor. Studies show that states with education choice produce better outcomes across demographics. More than 70% of voters champion school choice. Unfortunately, educational choice did not make it across the finish line this session. Clearly, our lawmakers did not listen to their constituents and it is time for a change.
It is the responsibility of every parent, grandparent, business owner and community member to engage and be informed when it comes to voting, staying up to date on issues in our local school districts, and donating whatever time and money we can to electing candidates who will support families and education. Every seat won in the midterms had a razor thin margin. Together, we have the power to change the trajectory of education in this state.
At Power2Parent, we are working on three major projects right now: 1) We are continuing to spearhead programs that serve the community, and grow our parent army. 2) We are working with Governor Joe Lombardo to find every available option to ensure that recipients of the Opportunity Scholarship program do not lose their scholarships. 3) We are finding innovative ways to get families and children the choice they deserve.
What can you do? 1) Talk to five friends, families members, parents of young children, and members of your church congregation and tell them to sign up to receive Power2Parent emails. 2) Follow us on all of our social media channels FaceBook, Twitter, Instagram.
Parental rights are fundamental rights that are protected under the constitution. This includes the right of a parent to direct the upbringing, education, and care of their children. This includes the right to choose the classroom that works best for our children including public, private, religious, or home school education.
No child should be denied an opportunity to flee a failing school and find a classroom that works best for them because of their zip code.
Join us today in our mission to uphold these rights, strengthen our communities and improve education in Nevada. |
