Dear Powerful Parents and Community Members,
Power2Parent strives to keep parents informed of new sex education curriculum recommended to CCSD trustees by the Sex Education Advisory Committee (SEAC).
SEAC will convene this Thursday evening, February 16th, at 5:00 pm to review and vote on additional sex education lessons.
The meeting will be held at the Greer Education Building located at 2832 E. Flamingo Road in Las Vegas.
Please see the agenda here.
Proposed Sex-Education Material.
If these lessons are approved on Thursday evening, they will be recommended to the Board of Trustees for approval. Once approved by trustees, teachers will be able to use them in class. Because of the makeup of SEAC and our trustee board, most of this material likely will be approved. Lessons on abstinence / sexual risk avoidance will probably not be approved.
In the links provided above, there is one lesson on abstinence that is very good. It was developed by a Health teacher in Moapa. The rest comes from Advocates for Youth which is developed by Planned Parenthood, a business that has vested financial interest in encouraging early sexual debut in children.
We urge parents to review all materials in the front office of your children's school before consenting to their participation. If the material is not appropriate or in line with your values, you can opt their children out of sex-education; it is not required for graduation.
You may also take action by writing to your trustee and letting them know how you feel about these lessons as a parent, stakeholder and constituent.
Our team is currently researching alternative sex education curricula so that parents will have choices when it comes to what their children learn about sex and relationships.
When you advocate for one child, you advocate for many.
