THE POWER OF COMMUNITY SERVICE
LOOKING FOR SOME WAYS TO HELP DURING THE HOLIDAYS?
Here are some places you can volunteer with your children over the holidays.

The Just one Project helps distribute food to those in need at 20 different locations throughout the Las Vegas Valley. Donate to the cause, or go in person to help pass out groceries. Find one close to you here!

The Salvation Army has an online angel tree/toy drive program that allows you to make donations online. Check it out here.

Serving Our Kids Foundation provides weekend meals to kids in Southern Nevada who would otherwise go hungry. Volunteers can assemble food bags for children. It's a great way for kids to serve kids. Check them out here.

Helping hands of Valley Vegas allows volunteers to deliver meals to home bound seniors. You can also drive seniors to appointments. Click here to learn more!

Click here for a list of local and online opportunities. Enter your zip code and find community service opportunities close to home.
Send a Senior a Christmas Card! There are currently several seniors in Residential Care Facilities who are alone and could use some encouragement. Send them a Christmas card here:
Senior Residential Care
11188 Salentino Ave
Las Vegas, NV 89138

Now is a great time to check in on your friends and neighbors to see how they are doing. Ask them if they need anything next time you are at the grocery store.

You can also write letters to relatives and service men and women who might be away from their families during the holidays. It's a great way to have your kids practice their writing skills!
POWER2TEACH
MONTHLY GIFT CARD WINNER
CONGRATULATIONS KYLE MURRELL!
Kyle is this month's Power2Teach winner of a $50 Amazon gift card and will be entered into our end of year $500 grand prize drawing.
Kyle is a sixth grade math resource teacher at Leid STEM Academy in CCSD. He was nominated by Deborah Cunningham who had this to say about him:

"Kyle Murrell believes that all students can learn and he is constantly trying new and innovative teaching strategies to help his middle school students understand math. He has conducted Parent Universities on Saturdays to teach his students’ parents important math concepts. Kyle supports his students by participating in after school clubs and activities. Several years ago he started a Gameboard Club because he realized that not all students were interested in sports and music. This club has become very popular and Kyle is still holding Gameboard Club during CCSD school closure. The past two years Kyle has shaved his head, to raise money, for St. Baldrick’s Childhood Cancer Research Foundation. He involved his students in the fundraiser. Kyle attends many school dances, sporting events, and after-school activities. Besides doing distance teaching and conducting Gameboard Club during school closure, Kyle has supported Tate ES students by waiting in food distribution lines and delivering food and supplies to Tate families."
Thank you, Kyle, for being an outstanding teacher in Nevada! We love our Nevada teachers and want to show our appreciation in a BIG way!

WHO IS YOUR CHILD'S FAVORITE TEACHER?
What teacher makes your child excited to go to school each day? What teacher has given your child a love of learning?

Each month we choose an outstanding teacher in Nevada who receives a $50 Amazon Gift Card who is then in the running for our yearly $500 grand prize!

MESSAGE FROM OUR PRESIDENT
THANK YOU FOR SUCH A GOOD YEAR!
This year has been profoundly challenging in many ways and has changed us, our families, the way we live our lives. We have all spent more time at home, ordered more take-out, watched more Netflix, and hoarded more toilet paper, than ever before. But, parents are resilient. We can see the needs of our children and families and pivot quickly to meet those needs. Parents have stepped up in incredible ways this year. I have been genuinely awed by parents learning to juggle working from home while simultaneously homeschooling multiple children. Parents have taken a more active role in their child's education than any time in recent history. Many have found innovative ways to educate their kids when distance learning was not working for their children. Parents have engaged our elected leaders more than ever before. In October, parents showed up in a big way to peacefully protest the continued closure of schools. In the same month, Power2Parent launched Nevada's first Parent Union. A powerful, collective voice that will represent parents and defend their rights. Many of our programs were cancelled due to the pandemic, but we strengthened many other programs including our Facebook live events and our Power2Teach program. We have added thousands of parents to our email list, and I am humbled and eternally grateful to those who have given financially this year to our mission. It is because of your support that we have been able to build diverse coalitions and stand in defense of Nevada parents. I am personally grateful for the extra time this crazy year has given me with my children. While it seems like writing an email at the kitchen table is like doing brain surgery, I know many of us feel like we have bought back time with our most important people. Although we do not know what this next year will bring, 2020 has brought parental rights to the forefront. We must keep these fundamental rights front of mind and work to continually protect them. Together, we will tackle each new challenge and we will be stronger than we were a year ago.

Erin Phillips, President Power2Parent
JOIN OUR PARENT ARMY!
POWERFUL PARENTS - POWERFUL UNION
It's no secret that unions have a lot of power in Nevada. It's time for all parents to join forces to form a new type of union-one with integrity and power to protect families and children. We will be able to more effectively advocate for parents and empower parents to advocate for their children
regarding many issues, especially in education. Members of our union can be parents, grandparents, concerned community members, and more.

SCHOOL BOARD ELECTION RESULTS
