On June 4th the Washoe County School Board of Trustees heard from over 300 parents and community members who were opposed to Lesson One of the S.H.A.R.E. (sexuality health education) curriculum because it was not inclusive of a traditional view of gender and sexuality. The trustees voted to send Lesson 1 back to the SHARE committee to "make it more balanced" and inclusive.
Tomorrow, Tuesday September 10th at 4:00 pm at 425 East Ninth Street, Reno, NV 89512, the board will vote once again on whether or not to pass the "revised" Lesson One.
This process has been wrought with disfunction, but the biggest problem is that seemingly no changes have been made to Lesson One. It is not more balanced nor inclusive.
Parents, once again, need to show up to the school board meeting and hold these board members accountable for their vote. They cannot in good conscience pass Lesson One based on the parameters that they set in place during the June 4th meeting.
For more information on the details of the curriculum, to view the results of the SHARE Survey, and to learn more about the process, visit us at https://www.power2parent.org/wcsd.html and feel free to contact us with any questions.
Lastly, please write the Washoe County School District Board of Trustees at members@washoeschools.net and let your voice be heard in person tomorrow.
Sincerely,
Erin Phillips, President www.power2parent.org
