Wednesday May 8th, no sooner than 12:30pm the Health and Human Services Committee will be hearing testimony for Senate Bill 179 (SB179). This bill seeks to eliminate the age verification requirement for women seeking an abortion.
Current statute "requires a physician to certify in writing the pregnant woman's marital status and age before performing an abortion." Nevada has one of the highest rates of sex trafficking. Not knowing the age of a girl seeking an abortion puts her at greater risk for exploitation, and protects her exploiters.
We are asking community members to contact their legislators and ask them to fix current parental notification laws by adding a section requiring expedited judicial review for minors seeking an abortion.
