Heads up! Regulation and overreach coming your way.

Dear Powerful Parent,

It is the end of the third week of the 2019 legislative session in Carson City, and many of the bills up for debate reflect increased bureaucratic regulation and government overreach.

Some of the most concerning bills are:

SB179– Eliminating parental notification for abortions performed on minor girls

AB123– Onerous reporting requirements to the State on individual immunization status

AB187– Requiring children under 17 to wear bike helmets or face fines

SB159– Mandating sun protection in public and private schools

Some politicians are intent on diminishing parental rights, and inserting themselves as the experts on out children.

Parents do not give up their rights to teachers and administrators when they drop their children off at the schoolhouse door. Nevada Legislators should know that their constituents do not consider politicians and bureaucrats to be qualified to make important medical decisions for Nevada children. Parents' rights are fundamentally protected under the Constitution of the United States. It is imperative that parents, grandparents, and community members band together to uphold the freedoms we cherish individually and as families.

Power2Parent began as a grassroots organization and now is firmly established as the foremost parental rights coalition in the state of Nevada. We are closely watching these bills as they roll out, and we will keep you informed, and alerted so you can make your voices heard. Your representatives need to hear from you on these important issues.

Please share our alerts with friends and family. Encourage people to sign up for our email updates and follow us on social media.

We know our voices are vital in this fight to protect parental rights, and there is power in numbers!

Thank you for standing with us.

Respectfully,

Erin Phillips
President
Power2Parent

P.S.— Without you, we cannot do what we do. Throughout the next four months we will be traveling, lobbying, bill watching, building coalitions around the state, and empowering parents. Please consider giving a generous donation to Power2Parent today to fund our efforts during this legislative session.

Power2Parent is a non-profit organization. As such, we rely on your generous donations to keep fighting for parental rights in Nevada. Thank you.

THE POWER OF PARENTING:

The Importance of Touch
Children who experience high levels of touch are less likely to be depressed and are better adjusted psychologically than those who receive lower levels of touch.

Whiddon, M. A., & Montgomery, M. J. (2011). Is touch beyond infancy important for children's mental health?

Positive physical touch is essential for proper development in children. In WWII, babies in orphanages who were denied human contact failed to thrive and did not live long.

According to Tiffany Field, Director of the Touch Research Institute at the University of Miami School of Medicine, Touch helps children stay healthy by stimulating pressure receptors under the skin, which lowers heart rate, slows breathing, decreases stress, and boosts the immune system. Even more, individuals who are touched regularly are less likely to be depressed! This was found to be true for individuals at all stages of life.

From birth to adolescence, touch is a fundamentally important care taking behavior and children and adolescents actually require touch for normal physical, social, and emotional development to occur.

What are some ways to get in some more touches with your children?

  • Hugs first thing in the morning

  • Eskimo Kisses (nose kiss/nose rub)

  • Butterfly Kisses (flutter your eyelashes on your child's cheek)

  • Fist Bump

  • Tickles

  • Back Rubs/Back Scratches & Shoulder rubs

  • Toss little ones up in the air

  • Spin little ones in circles

  • Read with your child on your lap

  • High Five

  • Play with your child's hair

  • Help your child comb/style his/her hair

  • Piggy back rides
  • Hold Hands
  • Pats on the back
  • Arm wrestle
  • Haircut
  • Manicure/Pedicure
  • Snuggles on the couch during a family movie night
Whatever you find works best, challenge yourself to give 8 touches to each child each day!
