Reminder: A Year to Celebrate

Dear Powerful Friend,

As the festive lights twinkle and the year draws to a close, we reflect on the journey we've shared and the incredible milestones we have achieved together. This Christmas, we're not just celebrating the season's joy, but also the profound impact we've made in empowering parents and advocating for the future of all children.

I want to share a story about a mom that we met this year. She came to us because she was trying to access Opportunity Scholarship money for her youngest child. Her story is heartbreaking, and unfortunately not uncommon. She raised her children in a home with faith and values, But after moving to Las Vegas and enrolling her children in their zoned public school, before long her children were falling behind and influenced by bad behaviors. This mom was desperate to help her children. She sought support from their school where she was told that drugs, violence, and truancy were the status quo, and she could not do anything about it. But, this mom was undeterred. Even though English was not her first language, and there were cultural barriers, she was determined to make sure her children were successful. Ultimately, she discovered the Opportunity Scholarship Program. The Opportunity Scholarship is available to families who fall 300% or below federal poverty levels. Because their family met that qualification, she gratefully received the funds she needed to enroll her two oldest children in a small private school where they ultimately graduated. Her youngest, who was just starting school, was also able to attend the same private school as her siblings. Unfortunately, after the 2023 legislative session as many as 600 students, were going to lose their scholarships because of legislators' unwillingness to fund the program. Just prior to the 23/24 school year, Governor Lombardo found a short term solution to help these families keep their scholarships and remain in their chosen schools. They were not forced back into the schools they fled. Power2Parent was able to assist this mom and others in applying to keep their scholarships.

School choice is essential and parents should be in the driver's seat because they know what is best for their children. Understanding and protecting the traditional role of parents in their children's lives keeps us going.

There are so many families like this mom, who are desperately looking for a safe classroom for their children and parents who need the tools to be empowered to help them find it.

The new year holds immense promise and potential. The stakes are high as our children are growing up quickly and the opportunity to nurture and empower this generation is moving further away. But our resolve is to ensure every parent is equipped, every child is nurtured, and every voice is heard.

This year has been a testament to what we can achieve together. Here are a few highlights:

  • The launch of our Empowered Choice Scholarship is a privately funded scholarship for K-12 education and is a beacon of hope for families seeking quality education.

  • Our events have directly trained and empowered over 1,000 parents, shedding light on pivotal issues from AI in education to financial literacy to school choice.

  • The opening of our brick-and-mortar Parent Resource and Training Center marks a new chapter in direct community support.

  • Our one to one advocacy has touched the lives of 10 parents this year, offering them tailored support and guidance.

  • The growth of our team with 3 passionate new members has expanded our capabilities and reach.

  • Our engagement with the Hispanic and AAPI communities has fostered invaluable connections and understanding.

  • Our advocacy in Carson City is paving the way for more inclusive and empowering school choice laws.

  • The merger with Battle Born Moms for Education has unified our efforts and strengthened our voice.

  • Our revamped website now serves as a more dynamic and informative hub for parents and advocates.

  • Our social media reach is over 60k impressions for the year.

  • Our community outreach, from backpack drives to filling stockings for children of incarcerated parents, has brought smiles and hope to many. This year we tripled our impact and filled 425 Christmas stockings.

  • Our legislative reception with Governor Joe Lombardo in April was a milestone in our advocacy journey.

  • Our team's involvement in various statewide education committees including Erin's appointment by Governor Lombardo to the SWCC for Regional Training Programs, underscores our commitment to systemic change.

As we embrace the joy of Christmas, we invite you to join us in this journey of empowerment and advocacy. Your generous support can help us launch vital initiatives in the New Year like the Fatherhood Project, a program designed to empower parents, especially fathers, in their crucial role in their children's lives. Our Empowered Choice Scholarship that will give families access to the classroom that meets their child's needs. And the Mary in the Library program that helps empower parents with the tools they need to make sure books and resources that their children are exposed to are age appropriate.

Will you consider a one time donation to help us meet our year end goal? Also, becoming a monthly partner or $10, $25, $50 each month will allow us to strengthen families through out the upcoming year. Every donation, big or small, fuels our mission and enables us to reach more families.

Year End Gift

In 2024, we stand at the threshold of new possibilities. With your continued support, we can turn these possibilities into realities, ensuring that every parent is empowered and every child's future is brighter.

From our family to yours, we wish you a Merry Christmas and a New Year filled with hope, joy, and endless possibilities.

Warm regards,

Erin Phillips
