We need you!

We have one week from today until GivingTuesday. Help us reach our goal of $5,000 by December 3, 2019.

How can you help?
As a supporter of Power2Parent, there are many ways you can continue to donate. We are able to protect your right to parent in Nevada solely because of the grassroots donations that come in from the community and our passion to protect parents - because we are parents! Here are 3 ways to donate:

1. Set up a monthly reoccurring donation:

$15 per month
$25 per month
$50 per month

2. Make a one-time donation here:
 https://secure.anedot.com/p2p/power

3. Create a Facebook fundraiser and share it with your friends on GivingTuesday, December 3, 2019. Creating a fundraiser is easy and we welcome fundraisers with any goal amount.

Where will the money raised will go?
We have a few amazing programs that are running throughout the community. Building Game Libraries in schools to foster quality family time and engage parents in their child's education is a main focus of ours right now. We've had success hosting community board game drives by teaming up with influencers in Nevada like Mrs. Nevada America-Natalie Winslow and Redrock Hotel & Casino who generously donated thousands of decks of cards this year, and by holding community Family Game Night kickoff events to start these libraries in schools. We know that parents are the #1 indicator in the success of their children and we will do what we can to help strengthen families in Nevada. Every dollar raised will have a great impact on this program and more.

We TRULY need your help so please consider one of the options above today!

Thank you for your support.
Power2Parent

P.S.
Facebook is contributing up to a $7 Million match to US nonprofits for GivingTuesday 2019. Starting 8:00am EST (5am PST) on December 3, 2019 the match will go live, matching dollar for dollar on a first come first serve basis until it hits $7 million matched. Help us hit our goal of being matched!

November Newsletter: Attitude of Gratitude!

THE POWER OF PARENTING:
An Attitude of Gratitude

"Gratitude can transform common days into thanksgivings, turn routine jobs into joy, and change ordinary opportunities into blessings." – William Arthur Ward

'Tis the time of year our kids make hand turkeys and come home with writing assignments that list things they are thankful for, but what if those thankful thoughts extended beyond the Thanksgiving Holiday? Would it make a difference in our families, or in the lives of our children?

Giving thanks can not only make you and your family happier, but healthier too! According to Harvard Medical School, "Gratitude is strongly and consistently associated with greater happiness. Gratitude helps people feel more positive emotions, relish good experiences, improve their health, deal with adversity, and build strong relationships."

Robert Emmons, the world's leading scientific expert on gratitude, explains in an article published by The Greater Good Science Center at the University of Berkeley that gratitude has a profound effect on physical health, psychological well-being, and on our relationships with others. Here are some of the benefits he's uncovered in a series of studies on gratitude:

Physical
• Stronger immune systems
• Less bothered by aches and pains
• Lower blood pressure
• Exercise more and take better care of their health
• Sleep longer and feel more refreshed upon waking

Psychological
• Higher levels of positive emotions
• More alert, alive, and awake
• More joy and pleasure
• More optimism and happiness

Social
• More helpful, generous, and compassionate
• More forgiving
• More outgoing
• Feel less lonely and isolated

What a great way to improve ourselves and build our family relationships!

Here are a few ideas on making an attitude of gratitude a habit:

  • Write thank you notes
  • Find a time during the day (Dinnertime, Dessert time, Bedtime) to have everyone in the family say something they are grateful for from the day
  • Take turns having each family member say something they are grateful for about another family member
  • Say "Please" and "Thank You" often and sincerely
  • Teach your children to thank their teacher at the end of each day
  • Make a list of all of the reasons you have to be grateful
  • Keep a gratitude journal where you regularly record the things for which you are grateful
  • Meditate and consider all the reasons you have to be grateful
  • Make an effort to smile more
  • Serve others to evoke feelings of gratitude, compassion, and confidence

Be thankful for what you have, you'll end of having more. If you concentrate on what you don't have, you will never, ever have enough." ~ Oprah Winfrey

Congratulations Richard Hutton!

Richard is this month's Power2Teach winner of a $50 Amazon gift card and will be entered into our end of year $500 grand prize.

Richard was nominated by Calvin Ruyak who had this to say about him:

"Mr. Richard Hutton was my choir teacher my entire high school career. Words can not describe the effort and dedication Mr. Hutton put into cultivating young musical minds, even those that did not want to be in his class. He was always fun and energetic. You could tell he had an incredible passion for music. He helped me realize just how much music means to me, and he helped me experience different levels of music through his class. I will never forget him as a teacher. I do not believe there is anyone more deserving of this prize than Mr. Hutton. He is a professional, a role model, and a friend."

Richard is the Choir Director at Spanish Springs High School in Washoe County

Do you have a teacher who has gone the extra mile for your child, or who has had an amazing influence on students in the State of Nevada?

Each month we will choose one teacher in Nevada who will be highlighted in our monthly P2P Newsletter and who will then be in the running to win our grand prize of $500 to use for the next school year!

We love our Nevada teachers and we're excited to show our support in a big way!  Good Luck!
