THE POWER OF PARENTING:

The Importance of Family Dinner
Children that have dinner with their families on average of 5 times per week are half as likely to commit suicide.*
*Utah Department of Health February 2015 Utah Health Status Update

Parents are the most crucial part of their children's lives and have a greater impact on their children's success in life than any other influence. Although you may hear people say there is no manual for parenting, there are some scientifically proven actions parents can take to raise happier and more successful children. One of the most overlooked is having dinner together as a family.
  • Children who eat dinner with their families are less likely to drink, smoke, do drugs, get pregnant, commit suicide, and develop eating disorders.
  • Children who enjoy family meals have larger vocabularies, better manners, healthier diets, and higher self-esteem.
  • The amount of time children spent eating meals at home is the single biggest predictor of better academic achievement and fewer behavioral problems.
*The Secrets of Happy Families: Improve Your Mornings, Rethink Family Dinner, Fight Smarter, Go Out and Play, and Much More by Bruce Feiler

The underlying philosophy of School Choice is that parents know what is best for their children. Teachers are not always able to meet the needs of every single student in their class, so parents need to have other options and resources available to give their children every opportunity possible to succeed. School Choice can include private schools, charter schools, magnet schools and homeschool.

Looking for SCHOOL OPTIONS for your children? Check out the Las Vegas School Choice Fair, January 19, 2019, 11am - 2pm at 233 South 4th Street, Las Vegas, NV 89101. Learn more about charter, magnet, private schools, homeschooling and more!

LEGISLATIVE UPDATES

GET INVOLVED!

Did you know that every phone call, letter and email is READ and COUNTED by your representative in the legislature? Why is this important? Because it means that your legislator wants to know how many people of their constituency care about a given bill that is being presented. From what we've learned, a legislator doesn't start to take a bill or issue seriously until they receive around 50 emails/letters/phone calls. That means it's really important for all of us to make our voices heard by calling/emailing/letter writing when an issue comes up that we care about. We'll keep you up to date on what is happening, but the best way for you to be involved is to take action and make your voice heard by calling/emailing/letter writing when the time comes!
  • Clark County School District is holding a series of town hall meetings to get feedback on their 5 year strategic plan for the district. Please plan on attending one. It's important for us to show up and voice our concerns. (See flyer for dates and times)
