On April 23, 2018, SexEdSitOut.org will be holding a National Sit Out Day for students to protest Comprehensive Sex Education (CSE).
Because of Nevada parents like you, who showed up to fight with us, Power2Parent has successfully fought off CSE in our state since our inception 4 years ago. In 2014, the Clark County School District introduced SIECUS, a type of comprehensive sex education that indoctrinates children starting at the kindergarten level teaching inappropriate subject matter such as masturbation, the use of pornographic materials, gender fluidity, role playing and more. At that time, parents showed up in mass multiple times to say 'no' and won. In 2015, the school board challenged the parental right to opt-in to sex education. During the 2017 Nevada Legislative Session, legislators attempted to mandate CSE throughout the entire state. With your help we fought hard and ultimately Governor Sandoval vetoed the bill on the grounds that it infringed on parental rights. We are so grateful that he chose to support parents of Nevada with his veto.
While we aren't currently dealing with this issue or actively participating in the sit out, we know that certain CCSD Trustees have it on their agenda to push the matter again. For this reason, it is important that we, as parents in the State of Nevada, continue to support those who are actively fighting this cause. It is important for us to stay vigilant and watch Comprehensive Sexuality Education and those who support it. Therefore, we want to use April 23rd as an opportunity to thank leaders who've voted to keep this out of our classrooms, and educate our leaders on the dangers of introducing graphic sexually explicit materials to children. There are a number of ways to participate in the National Sit Out Day: keep your children home, email the governor and leaders who voted NO in 2017 to thank them, and write your trustees and tell them to keep CSE out of our classrooms.
Please visit sexedsitout.org for more information on what you can do to participate and don't forget to join us on social media: @power2parent, to get current, updated information on CSE in Nevada, proposed Gender Diverse Policy being pushed at the state and olocal level, and other issues that affect parental rights. With the 2019 NV Legislative Session around the corner in 2019, we must keep a watchful eye and continue to hold leaders accountable.
